Anita Among, the speaker of parliament, has responded to the claims made by the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party that lawmakers were given bribes to approve the recent supplementary budget.
During the Wednesday plenary session, Among refuted the accusation made by Bobi Wine that the MPs were bribed to pass the budget. Among clarified that the MPs receive payment for their duties and responsibilities and dismissed Bobi Wine’s claim as an attempt to distract them.

“I want to request you people, before you come up with such an allegation, you must be able to substantiate. Our work is for the national service and we are paid for what we do. We aren’t bribed in any way and we aren’t going to be diverted,” she said.
It has been claimed that Bobi Wine fabricated accusations of bribery in order to conceal his alleged involvement in homosexuality. The individual suggested that Bobi Wine refrain from using Parliament as a means of concealing his actions and instead discreetly accept funds from homosexuals.
Among alleged that Bobi Wine has made up the bribery allegations to cover up for the homosexuality saga he has been involved in. She told Bobi not to use Parliament as a cover-up and to quietly eat his money from homosexuals.
“If you are covering your dirt on homosexuality, you are getting money on homosexuality and you are covering all that, don’t use this House to cover it. Don’t use Parliament to cover that, eat your money of bum shafters,” she said.
Among added; “You can’t say we are bribing you, bribing you for what? We are here working for our people, for us, we are here to do work, we are people centred Parliament.”
Ignatius Mudimi, vice-chairperson of the parliamentary budget committee, refuted the allegations made by Bobi Wine and asked Speaker Among to hold him accountable. He said his constituents are calling him asking for money, assuming he has received money to pass the budget.
Bobi Wine on Tuesday alleged that each legislator had been bribed with UGX 100 million to pass the 3.5 trillion supplementary budget. The budget that was passed last week saw the State House and the Office of the President receive the biggest share of the yet to be borrowed funds.
