WHY MORE COVID-19 RELATED DEATHS AWAITS UGANDANS

Many people are dying and being buried quietly by their families, at the moment. Some die as a result of covid. Majority are due to their pre-existing conditions, such as HIV, high blood pressure, asthma , diabetes, etc worsening as a result of inability to access health facilities, loss of income, lack of food, closure of work places. Some are being badly injured or out rightly killed by lock down enforcement security officers. Others will die from starvation, malnutrition or stress related causes.

Financial incentives being promised by government will be stolen by officials & will never be delivered to those they are calling the urban poor. Covid19 spread at schools and urban areas would have been contained by instituting control measures in schools and urban areas. Allowing children and those in urban areas to move to villages, before lock down, aided distribution of covid19, to the last point in all villages. Reports (if true) are that government will no longer allow families to make death announcements.

You will be required to bury your loved ones quietly. Maybe, you won’t be able to access their burial sites either, due to lock down. Ugandans have no access to robust mental health and counselling services, that could enable them cope with such stress. So, prepare to see many mentally challenged people after the lock down.

Its obvious many more Ugandans will die from covid related actions and inactions of government officials than from covid itself.

As our schools, shops are closed, theirs are open! The reasons we are in this dilemma is because of our indifference and opportunistic approach to our politics. We deceive ourselves that our jobs and money is all we need to survive and be happy in Uganda. We chose to live with mismanagement of our country. We chose to be foolish.

We should now be ready to pay for it using our blood or those of our loved ones.

Covid-19 Vaccination to Resume

Confirmed deliveries are 93,3360 doses in 94 districts.
Vaccination against Covid-19 is expected to resume on Monday June 28, according to National Medical Stores officials.

The vaccination exercise was halted after Dictator Yoweri Museveni announced a 42-day lockdown during his recent  address on Covid-19 held on Friday June 18, 2021.

National Medical Stores (NMS) spokesperson, Sheila Nduhukire, through her twitter handle said on Thursday that NMS started distributing the vaccines last week and about 117,520 doses have so far been distributed in 135 districts.

In Kampala, 40 vaccination points have been installed and in every division, there will be 8 points.

She said that the confirmed deliveries are of 93,3360 doses in 94 districts and the distribution is expected to end with Kampala which will get 57,480 doses and these will be received by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

The Ministry of Health had earlier stated that they are targeting to vaccinate about 21,936,011 people in a phased manner with each phase covering  20% of the population; approximately 4.38 million people.

On June 16, 2021, Uganda received her 3rd batch of the vaccines, a donation of 175,200 doses of from the French government through the COVAX initiative. These will be administered to people getting their second jab.

Initially, the country had received 864,000 AstraZeneca doses on 6th March 2021 from the Serum Institute of India and later received 100,000 doses from the Government of India.

So far, 841,629 people have been vaccinated.

The country has registered 75,537 cumulative cases of covid-19; 50,350 recoveries and 781 fatalities.
